The Demolition of the Space

The crew did put plastic up at the various doors and arches. This is the one between the family room and the sunroom.

Work began by removing all cabinets and appliances (other than the refrigerator ) This was the kitchen area. You can see the gas line for the old cooktop and the drain from the sink on the right. (Pooh, our dog, is poking her head in on the left, wondering what the heck is happening to HER house)

The tile was laid over old linoleum, which was on the sub-floor.

Shelves and doors were removed from the pantry.

And the sun room.

Pantry being gutted. The wall on the back right will stay.
Note that the tile in the kitchen and breakfast area has been removed.

Here is the tile being removed from the sun room. The corner on the back left turned out to be almost three inches down from the diagonal corner. But the previous contractor made up for it with a layer of mortar under the tile that was from 1 to 3 inches thick!!  The debris from this room alone (tile and mortar) took 2 trailer loads to haul out as it was so heavy.

Finally, all tile an mortar gone, and the old pantry gone. However, note the wires (terminating in 4 switches) still hanging from the ceiling that used to be in the pantry wall. This is midway back, in the center of the picture. Over the rectangular hole in the floor that used to be a heating vent.

This is the same view with me standing in the door to to the dining room, shooting towards the sunroom as I had in the "before" section. Looks different, does it not?

Sunroom looking back towards kitchen. The old computer desk was placed to the right of the outlet shown. And they are starting to frame in on the right. (This is one thing I should have fought, and had them leave it out. But not a big issue.)

Because the new kitchen windows were not ready, they just started framing in the new wall across the old bay-window. Yes, we did loose that window. I wanted to keep it, but it really would not work out.

A better view of the the space we lost by loosing the bay window.
